Similarly to our white 47, which is moderately priced without sacrificing quality, our red 47 falls in the same category. Made with predominately Chambourcin (a French American hybrid grape) we are able to capture the margins necessary to allow a red to be priced where it is. Chambourcin was initially bred in the mid 1960s and is extremely climate and disease resistant. It is an extremely consistent crop which produces high yields and consistent wines. A bump of crop in Merlot and Landot Noir allowed us to enhance this wine without sacrificing the price for the customer.
